A new Accessibility Action Plan for Withywood Park
Withywood Park now has its very own Accessibility Action Plan, created hand in hand with local Disabled people, carers and community partners.
The plan was shaped by a group of local Disabled people and carers with a wide range of lived experience, from mobility and sensory impairments to neurodiversity. Together they identified the changes that would make the biggest difference.
Co-designed with the community

This plan is more than just a list of improvements. It’s a commitment to making sure everyone, can enjoy all that Withywood Park has to offer and has reasons to keep coming back – from the sweeping views of Dundry Hill to the wildlife tucked away in its green corners.
Their priorities

- Accessible entrances and paths – wider gates, dropped kerbs and handrails where needed
-
More and better seating – including high-level benches with space for scooters and prams
-
Shelters and bins – practical changes that make visits more welcoming and enjoyable
-
Clearer information – both in the park and online, with accessible formats like large print, Braille, audio and BSL
-
Sensory and quiet spaces – creating areas where visitors can relax, recharge and connect with nature
Alongside these, the plan also highlights community-led events, nature trails, youth facilities and health and wellbeing spaces to bring people together and help the park thrive.
Why this matters

We know parks are vital for health, wellbeing and connection – but not everyone can access them equally. By starting with the priorities that matter most, this plan will ensure Withywood Park becomes a space that feels truly open to all.
And the work doesn’t stop here. The lessons learned from Withywood Park will also shape a toolkit that other communities can use to make their own green spaces more inclusive.
What happens next?

Some changes can happen quickly – like extra seating and clearer signage – while others will take more time and investment. But thanks to the determination of local residents and community partners, the path to a more inclusive Withywood Park is now set.
We’ll be sharing updates as progress is made, and there will be plenty of opportunities to get involved – whether through volunteering, sharing ideas or supporting the changes as they happen.
Together, we’re making Withywood Park a place where everyone feels welcome.
