£25,000 to kick-start innovation in accessibility for Bristol & Bath's parks
We are excited to have secured funding to action recommendations from our research, Not just a check box, which shines a light on the barriers Disabled people and unpaid carers experience when trying to use Bristol and Bath's parks.
Thank you to Natural England for providing £25,000 to kick-start this vital work.
Audits are essential
One unanimous recommendation from Not just a check box was that parks need to be audited.
- By local Disabled people and unpaid carers with a broad range of lived experience
- Looked at one-by-one to identity barriers to access on the way to and in the park
We are now working with Disabled people and unpaid carers to do that this. Together we are trying to find a way to assess the accessibility parks and create action plans to improve them.
Community led park access assessments
We are holding workshops for Disabled people and unpaid carers to shape the accessibility assessments.
Following the workshops we will test what we develop in Bristol and Bath's parks.
It is likely there will be multiple stages of testing before we are confident that the process works. It needs to be completely inclusive so it can be used by any group of Disabled people and unpaid carers in any park.
