Doing our bit for Accessibility Awareness
Thanks to our Not Just A Checkbox research, we found that one of the biggest barriers for our Disabled and unpaid carers community was having or access information about parks. As part of our Parks 4 All project, we are working to overcome this barrier through the creation of digital guides and Accessibility Guides.
Sensory Walks
Today, on Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we're proud to have our Sensory Walks Training going ahead in partnership with Sense.
In an effort to make information more accessible, our Parks Access Assistant Madie has created a digital Sensory Walks Guide as part of the training session. The aim of the guide is to help you create and run your own sensory walks, and we are happy to have this available for you to access now.
Accessibility Guides
For Disabled people and carers, park visits require extensive planning, which is impossible to do without detailed up-to-date digital information – something we found our parks are currently lacking.
We, along with local friends of groups, are improving digital information about parks by producing PDF Accessibility Guides in the style of 'easy-read' for as many parks as possible across Bristol and Bath.
Help us Improve Digital Access
We're proud to have pulled together a toolkit for you to have a go at producing your own guides.
If you're interested, you can now access our how-to guide and have a go at producing your own Accessibility Guide for your local park.
