National Lottery funding powers weekly volunteering in Bath’s parks
We’re delighted to receive support from The National Lottery Community Fund's Awards for All Environment fund, made possible by National Lottery players. This funding will help us continue Bee Active, our weekly roving volunteer programme that brings Bath residents together to care for their local parks.

Volunteers will meet each week and travel across the city so more neighbourhoods can get involved. Guided by a our in-house experienced horticulturalist, Carol, sessions are welcoming and practical. People of all experience levels can take part, with tools and guidance provided. In spring we’ll sow wildflower seed, plant bulbs and care for young trees. Summer focuses on meadow scything, watering and pond care. Autumn and winter bring planting, mulching and wildlife-friendly features such as dead hedges and log piles.
The impact will be visible across Bath. In 2026 volunteers will hope that volunteers help maintain around 10,000 m² of habitat created by Your Park in previous years, care for 500+ trees and plant 5,000 bulbs, supporting biodiversity to thrive. The group will help care for new meadows and planting at Brickfields Park and Odd Down Limestone Grasslands, with monitoring of species such as the Small Blue butterfly.

Bee Active also strengthens community connections. The roving model means people see their neighbours taking action in their local park and feel inspired to join in. Many start with one session and keep coming back, building confidence and friendships as they go. We’ll keep working closely with Bath and North East Somerset Council and local Friends groups, providing leadership, skills and equipment that make regular park care possible.
Thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund and everyone who plays the National Lottery for backing this work. Your support will help hundreds of local people care for the green spaces that care for all of us!
