Bee Active wins at the Radio Bath Charity Awards

We’re thrilled to share that Bee Active has won Best Collaboration or Partnership Initiative at the Radio Bath Charity Awards. This award celebrates what’s possible when a small charity and a council parks team pull in the same direction.

What is Bee Active?

Bee Active is our roving volunteer group in Bath. Every week, volunteers head to a different park to make space for wildlife. They create wildflower meadows, wildlife ponds, beetle banks and dead hedges, making Bath’s green spaces better for pollinators and people.

Working together

Since 2023, our volunteers have worked hand in hand with B&NES Council’s Parks Department and Tree Team. The council has shared land access, permissions, staff and vehicles to make the work happen. The partnership has grown along the way. B&NES now has a dedicated Parks Volunteer Liaison Officer, and a volunteer network we sparked together across Bath’s Friends of Groups now runs independently.

What we’ve achieved

Across 2024 and 2025, we delivered 180 volunteer sessions with 1,212 volunteer attendances. Together, volunteers created or improved nearly 20,000m² of habitat at parks including Brickfields, Sydney Gardens and Alexandra Park.
